Although classified as a trekking peak, the climb requires glacier travel and basic ice axe and crampon techniques.

Detailed Itinerary

  • Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m)

    Upon arriving in Kathmandu airport, Our team will greet you a warm welcome and take you to your hotel.

  • Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing and Trek Preparation

    We set off for a beautiful day exploring Kathmandu valley, observing historical, cultural, and monumental wonders.

    1. Swayambhunath, also known as the Monkey Temple, is a sacred Buddhist stupa perched atop a hill in Kathmandu. It offers panoramic views of the city and features a striking white dome, golden spire, and the iconic all-seeing eyes of Buddha. The site is a blend of Buddhist and Hindu symbolism and is one of the oldest religious sites in Nepal.
    2. Patan Durbar Square, located in the heart of Lalitpur, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its rich Newar architecture and artistry. The square features ancient palaces, temples, and courtyards, including the stunning Krishna Mandir and the Hiranya Varna Mahavihar (Golden Temple). It was once the royal palace complex of the Malla kings of Lalitpur. The area is a vibrant blend of history, culture, and living tradition, with artisans still practicing age-old crafts.
    3. Pashupatinath Temple is one of the holiest Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, located on the banks of the Bagmati River in Kathmandu. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it’s renowned for its sacred cremation ghats, pagoda-style architecture, and spiritual significance to devotees from around the world.
    4. Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest in the world, is a sacred center of Tibetan Buddhism located in Kathmandu. Its massive white dome and watchful Buddha eyes create a serene atmosphere, where monks, pilgrims, and visitors circle the stupa in peaceful prayer.

    Later in the evening, we will have a brief meeting about trek preparation.

  • Day 03: Fly to Lukla (2,860m) – Trek to Paiya (2,730m)

    The flight to Lukla Airport is an exhilarating experience, offering jaw-dropping aerial views of the Himalayas within just 30 minutes. Known as one of the most thrilling airstrips in the world, the landing at Tenzing-Hillary Airport is short, steep, and surrounded by dramatic mountain terrain.

    After landing, we then move towards our destination trekking through lush hills and ridgelines.

  • Day 04: Paiya to Panggom (2,800m)

    The trek from Paiya to Panggom winds through lush forests and small Sherpa settlements, offering a peaceful and less-traveled path into the Hinku Valley. Along the way, trekkers cross ridges and suspension bridges with occasional glimpses of distant snow-capped peaks.

  • Day 05: Panggom to Nashing Dingma (2600m)

    The trail from Panggom to Nashing Dingma crosses the scenic Panggom La Pass, opening up to expansive views of the surrounding hills and valleys. It’s a rewarding day of ups and downs through bamboo groves and remote villages, giving a deeper glimpse into the life of the lower Solu region.

  • Day 08: Trek to Kothe (3,600m)

    The trek from Khola Kharka to Kothe descends gradually into the lush Hinku Valley, following narrow forest trails rich with rhododendron and moss-covered trees. As you approach Kothe, the sound of the Hinku Khola grows louder, and glimpses of towering peaks begin to appear through the canopy.

  • Day 09: Kothe to Thangnak (4,700m)

    The trek from Kothe to Thangnak follows the Hinku River upstream, passing through yak pastures and beneath hanging glaciers. The valley opens wider with every step, offering dramatic views of Mera Peak and surrounding cliffs as you approach the high-altitude settlement of Thangnak.

  • Day 11: Acclimatization & Climbing Training at Khare (4,950m)

  • Day 12: Khare to Mera High Camp (5,780m)

The summit feels quiet and powerful, with only the sound of the wind and the crunch of snow beneath your boots. After days of effort and altitude gain, reaching the top brings a profound mix of exhaustion, awe, and triumph.

    The trek from Khare to Kothe is a long and steady descent, retracing your steps through the rugged glacial valley of the Hinku region. With each drop in elevation, the air becomes thicker, and the landscape shifts from ice and rock back to alpine greenery. It’s a day of reflection and relief, passing familiar landmarks now seen from a new and more relaxed perspective.

  • Day 16: Kothe to Thuli Kharka (4,300 meters

    The trek from Kothe to Thuli Kharka climbs gradually through pine and rhododendron forests, offering peaceful trails and occasional mountain views. As you ascend higher, the terrain opens up into wide meadows where yaks graze and prayer flags flutter in the breeze. The final stretch to Thuli Kharka feels remote and tranquil, setting the stage for the final crossing over Zatrwa La.

  • How difficult is Mera Peak to climb?

    Mera Peak is considered a non-technical trekking peak, but it requires excellent fitness and some basic mountaineering skills. While the route is not steep or technical, the altitude (6,476m) makes it physically demanding.
  • Do I need prior climbing experience?

    No prior climbing experience is required, but previous high-altitude trekking is highly recommended. Our guides provide basic training at Khare, including how to use crampons, ice axe, and ropes.
  • What is the best time to climb Mera Peak?

    The best seasons are Spring (April–May) and Autumn (October–November). These months offer stable weather, clearer skies, and safer glacier conditions.
  • Is altitude sickness a risk on Mera Peak?

    Yes, altitude sickness is a risk due to the elevation above 6,000 meters. We follow a carefully planned itinerary with acclimatization days, and our guides carry first-aid kits and monitor your health throughout the trek.
  • What gear do I need for the climb?

    Essential gear includes mountaineering boots, crampons, ice axe, harness, helmet, down jacket, gloves, and a -20°C sleeping bag. We provide a gear checklist before the trek.
  • Where do we sleep during the climb?

    You’ll stay in teahouses during the trek and in tents at Mera High Camp the night before the summit. Tents, mats, and cooking staff are included in our expedition package.
  • How long is the Mera Peak expedition?

    The standard expedition lasts 17–18 days from arrival in Kathmandu, including acclimatization and contingency days for weather or altitude.
  • How cold does it get on the summit day?

    Temperatures at the summit can drop to -15°C to -25°C, especially before sunrise. Proper gear and layering are essential to stay warm during the climb.
  • Do I need a climbing permit for Mera Peak?

    Yes, you need a Mera Peak Climbing Permit issued by the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), as well as entry permits for Makalu Barun National Park and local municipal areas. All permits are arranged by Glory Himalayan Trek & Tours.
  • Is Mera Peak suitable for first-time trekkers or climbers?

    Yes, Mera Peak is ideal for fit trekkers attempting their first Himalayan summit. While not technical, it involves glacier travel, so we provide basic mountaineering training at Khare.
  • What is the food like on the trek?

    You’ll enjoy freshly prepared local meals (dal bhat, noodles, soups, etc.) and some Western dishes like pasta or pancakes. Our guides ensure hygienic food and safe drinking water throughout the trek.
  • Is travel insurance necessary?

    Yes.
